Previous Life

Starting life as a bed leg component at Oxford Brookes Clive Booth Student accommodations, this element was made to be sturdy. The original production method involved gluing thin layers of wood around a former to create the curved shape. Producing this component from scratch is labour intense requiring expensive set ups and lots of energy which would be lost with its disposal.

About making

The CLIVE stool comes to life by splitting each bed leg in half to make two new stool legs. After mechanically removing the old lacquer finish (no toxic paint stripper used), fresh wood is revealed. Traditional mortice and tenon joinery hold the piece together.

The final touches are done by hand, edges sanded smooth and a protective coat of naturally derived hard wax oil applied, before leaving the workshop again.

Products made from natural and reused materials can vary slightly from the image and can include small marks from a past life. Should there be any, those will only be minor and won’t affect the item in any way.
